Prayers Please

I know that probably not too many people actually read my blog since I NEVER update. But I need to ask a favor of anyone who is out there reading.

One of my students -- Meagan, 17 years old, about to be a senior -- had a large tumor in her stomach. I believe 20x10x12 cm if I remember correctly. She had it removed last Tuesday. The family had a huge sigh of relief because the doctors were convinced that it was benign. Later that day, she bagan bleeding internally. Since then she has gone through 2 more surgeries, several blood clots, and a couple of very close calls where they were able to revive her with CPR.

The doctors believe that she is fairly stable now. They are hoping to allow her to wake up in the next couple of days. It is still scary. Her friends are a mess, of course, and I dealt with lots of tears when I ran into a couple at school today. Please keep Meagan, her family, and her friends in your prayers. She certainly needs them!

Why I never blog...

Here I am, a teacher on summer vacation. But I have more jobs now than I did then. Call me crazy because I probably am. Right now I am doing all of these things:
  • Watching a coworker's house for 2 and a half weeks. Watching the house involves watering her gardens. And that is not a small task. I have given up atleast 4 hours to it this week alone.
  • Planning for summer school next week. I have two 2-hour sessions every day. Should be easy but still a lot of prep.
  • Tutoring 5 different kids.
  • Working at Pomodoro's so that the owners can go on vacation.

All of this is making every day fly by. The housesitting ends this weekend. And it will be nice when summer school is over. But then the restaurant starts up. Why do I do this to myself?

The Cardinals are in a sad state. They were swept by the Royals. I cannot think of much worse. On to Boston, Detroit and KC again. Scary times.

I am off-- I got nail polish on a brand new pair of pants. I am working to clean it up. And I have a wedding reception tonight, so I have to find the necessary accessories. Happy weekend all!

Spring time!!

St. Louis got htd big and bad with spring time storms this week. Some of the rivers are going to hit record levels after only a few days of rain. The waters are way higher than this now but here is a picture. The raised road in the background is Interstate 44. They are thinking that the highway will be closed here by tonight. Craziness. It is beautiful here now though. I am headed to enjoy being outside.

Why do stupid teachers give exams??

Yes, I am one of those stupid teachers, and I do not want to write them! I have 2 new ones this year, and I am not happy about it at all! I decided to give all three of my exams in two parts. But that means I have to write my exams in two parts. How stupid can I be??

I was just reading Jackie's blog on random 20 ness, and I thought that I should blog since I am beginning the final year of my twenties. Yes, I turn 29 today. My students were nice enough to point out all week that I would be 30!! next year. Yuck. I really did not want to think about that one.
  • What did I do for my birthday, you ask? Last weekend a bunch of us went to the Funny Bone and laughed like crazy. It was good. I went out Thursday. That was a late night. Friday was happy hour and then hanging out at Christi's. We relaxed in the hot tub, and that was exactly what I needed. Yesterday I decorated my Christmas tree. I took a picture, but I cannot get it uploaded.
  • Today I took a bath, and I am just relaxing. I do not feel like dong much. I am going to get some lunch in a bit and then do some Christmas shopping. My biggest birthday wish is that the exam fairy writes my exams while I am gone. There just really is no time for me to work on it this week.
  • Tomorrow I am working on proofs with the sophomores, then dinner for mine and Kathy's birthday. Tuesday is tutoring and then dinner with my parents, Wednesday is same but dinner with Jill.
  • Thursday is cookie day with Kathy. We are going to drink rum and make ridiculaous amounts of Christmas cookies. Yummm....

Ok, I m going to get some food. Not sure what yet, everything sounds good to me. Have a good week all!

Only 2 days left this week..... Jealous???

I actually do not recommend jealousy. I have to teach tomorrow and Wednesday. Then we are off school Thursday and Friday. Thursday will actually not be that great. We have parent teacher conferences. 3 and a half hours of parents telling me how wonderful their children are and how irrational it is that "I gave" them a low grade. I don't give anyone anything. They earn it. By doing their work or doing nothing. But Friday is free all day. I cannot wait for that.

Big news, my aunt and uncle are officially moving here after the first of the year. That means cousin is probably coming here too. We will have lots of time to bond and go to Cardinals games!

Speaking of baseball-- I am a little depressed. I am not a fan of the outcome of the World Series. And who are these "great???" Red Sox fans who get arrested when they are out celebrating because they are hanging from light posts and other weird stuff? How does that keep them in the great category? Cards fans celebrated HARD last year, but did not do so much stupid stuff. How can they be better fans than us?? Me no like the Red Sox.

I avoided all Halloween parties this weekend. Friday was a fund raiser with a band reunited, but oddly, the band did not show. How is that for support for a benefit? Saturday was family time and then family time with a friend's family. They were dressed up earlier but I missed the costumes. I only got to see the incredible drunkeness they had become. Now I just have to avoid a costume for actual Halloween. I hope that some people at school don't follow through with some costume ideas they want me to join in on.

Erica had her baby on Friday. Another little one to spoil. She had a boy-- Bradley Michael. He is named after 2 city cops who died in the line of duty. Really cute. I cannot wait to see him.

Ursuline played Cor Jesu in sectionals for volleyball this weekend. I was disappointed by the CJ showing. We always come out in full force to support things like that. I feel like they were pretty pathetic. It did not matter though. Our team could not catch a break. They did not play well. CJ won easily. At least I could be happy with any outcome.

Ok, I am out. Am I doing better Katie? I have to get some stuff done before everyone comes over here before Heroes. I hope that it is better than last week. It was way too choppy last week!

Katie, I am trying!

  • MY CLASS ENDED LAST NIGHT!!! I am so happy. I did not get to the final project until Sunday morning. And I just did not spend enough time on it. I don't think that it was bad, but it could have been better. Just waiting for the grade to find out what she thought.

  • On the flip side, which is part of why the project got pushed off. My friend's 25 year old sister committed suicide. The wake is tonight. I can't seem to concentrate on anything school related so that is why you get me here now.

  • This weekend was crazy. Chaperoning the dance Friday night was great. The girls were so funny. There are a million pictures of me so I am sure they are all over Facebook. They keep promising me that they will bring them for me or send them to me. I will post if I ever get them.

  • Saturday morning I got up to head to Mizzou to tailgate and go to the big Nebraska game. We had a side trip by a U15 team soccer game. Several of the girls from school are on it. They won 9-0! It was ridiculous! And it got a little boring. We got to Columbia about 3. It was a lot of fun. I got stalked by a really drunk guy who somehow found me twice in the middle of hundreds of thousands of people at a football game. There were over 70,000 people at the game itself. It was a gold rush so there was just tons of gold. It looked great. We were only 17 rows back from the endzone. Right next to the band. Still having trouble with hearing occasionally. Worth the pain though. Here is the student section during the wave. The wave was the entire stadium and it lasted at least 10 minutes. It was pretty neat.

  • On a Heroes note, Mohinder was sitting behind me at the game. He was really hot! (Ok, not really him, but he looked alot like him.) We were talking to them most of the first half. He and his friend disappeared during halftime though. We were going to ask him about Sylar, but no such luck.

Ok, I must head out. Happy Wednesday all! Have a good rest of the week!

I like sleep but forgot what it feels like

  • The Cardinals did not go to the post season. I don't really know how to feel cause I feel empty. What am I supposed to do every night? Who do I watch? And what do I do about all the tests and quizzes from last year that I want to steal questions from that have questions about the World Series?
  • Why? Why do people get me hooked on new shows? So a bunch of us from school watch Lost. One of the guys said that we should start watching Heroes. Someone else did who talked me into watching also. So two weeks ago it was a marathon. I watched all 23 episodes from Sunday at 11 am till Friday during my plan period about lunch time so that I would be ready last Monday for the new season. I am hooked. It is great. Now there are about 5 more people who followed in my footsteps.
  • And Gossip Girl. I always watch many shows that the girls watch. And this is the one they were obsessed with so I am trying. I guess the thrill comes after you have read the books????
  • I am in grading hell. I hate it.
  • My little man, Austin is so cute. Angie and I walked him before bedtime tonight. I need to take pictures of him. He is such a little flirt. And Wednesday is his 6 month birthday.
  • This week is crazy. It is Spirit Week. It is the week leading up to our big fundraiser-- Fall Fest on Sunday. We dress to a theme everyday. The theme for the year is strike a pose. It is based on America's next Top Model. Today was animal print. (not fun at all). Tomorrow is family picture. My homeroom is doing plaid pj's and pigtails. Wednesday is JOutfits. As in jean outfits. How funny is that? I found my overalls from about 1990. And I intend to wear them. Picutes if I remember. (I just have to remember clothes to change into when I run places after school.) Thursday is Flash Back day. It is supposed to be flashback to grade school mixers. Jaime and I cannot decide how to do theirs and not ours. who knows what is up with 5 years ago mixers?
  • This weekend is crazy. Homecoming chaperoning Friday night. Anyone intersted? It is always a fun time. They are so cute! Saturday morning I head to watch a 15 year old select soccer game-- but wait to hear my fun after since I am going to the game. .. I am going to the MIzzou vs. Nebraska game. It should be a blast. And we are staying there afterwards. I am excited. Sunday we head home and then go to Fall Fest to be a good (hungover) teacher who is excited about being with teenagers!

So that is my update since Katie says I don't do it. I am doing what I can. Can someone remind me that a certain guy whose name starts with a K will only break my heart?????
